2018 NFB of CT Annual State Convention
The National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut will hold our 47th Annual State Convention on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 2, 3 and 4, 2018, at the Courtyard by Marriott, 63 Grand Street, Waterbury, Connecticut. Rooms will be available for Friday and Saturday nights for a convention discounted rate of $99, plus tax, per night. To offset the cost of the rooms, convention attendees who stay at the hotel both nights will receive a ten dollar discount on a full registration package. To receive the discount, provide your reservation confirmation number when you register. To reserve a room, call the Courtyard by Marriott at 203-596-1000. The deadline for reserving a room and registering for the convention is October 19, 2018.
We are very happy to announce that Patti Chang, Director of Outreach, National Federation of the Blind, will serve as our National Representative.
Marty Watts, National Sales Director at Aira will make the service available in the hotel from Thursday through Monday, free of charge. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play. You can use the service on your iPhone or Android.
We will kick things off Friday afternoon with an Advocacy Seminar followed by Division Meetings, There will be a Pizza Party, which will be followed by Fun and Games put on by our Student Division
Saturday morning, a continental breakfast will be followed by an information-filled general session. We will hear from National Rep Patti Chang. We will have a variety of speakers, such as a Waterbury Police Department representative on public safety; Dina Rosenbaum, the Director at the Carroll Center; Dianne Weaver Dunne from CRIS Radio; and more. We will also hear from Gary Allen, President of NFB of CT; Jim McCollum, Legislative Coordinator; Brian Sigman, Director of the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind; and Gordon Riddick from the CT Library for the Blind.
After lunch Saturday, we will hold a vendor fair. We also will have three Breakout Sessions: (1) Live the Life You Want! Build strength and confidence through fitness! (2) Athlete’s Forum: How Have Sports Helped You Live the Life You Want? (3) Guide Dog Schools: No, They Are Not All the Same.
National Representative Chang will address our convention during the banquet Saturday evening. Also, we will present Academic Scholarship Awards as well as our Woodward Award.
Following breakfast on Sunday morning, we will hold our Annual Business Meeting. We will elect all officer and two board positions, review our past year and discuss our plans for the future.
